Meta's automated ad review approved AI-generated CSAM that hash-based detection missed

Over 50 AI-generated CSAM ads passed Meta's automated review across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger (Nov 2025–Aug 2026), per TTP research reported by Wired. Synthetic imagery doesn't match known CSAM hashes — digital fingerprints of previously identified images — leaving image classifiers as the last defense. They failed on material researchers called undisguised. Meta did not dispute the ads were approved and served.
