Federal judge refuses to dismiss indie artists' copyright class action against AI music generator Udio

On August 3, Judge Sara L. Ellis of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois denied Uncharted Labs' motion to dismiss a copyright class action filed by ten independent musicians against AI music generator Udio. Ellis transferred the case to the Southern District of New York, where UMG's separate suit against Udio is already docketed. The plaintiffs' amended complaint spans 14 counts, including seven for copyright infringement.
