Spotify Says It Can Launch AI Remix Tool Without All Major-Label Deals

Spotify Co-CEO Gustav Söderström told the company's Q2 2026 earnings call on August 4 that Spotify does not need licensing deals with every major record company before launching its AI-powered covers and remixes tool. Universal Music Group and Merlin's 30,000 independent labels are in; Warner Music Group and Sony Music are not yet announced. Söderström cited Spotify's own launch, which proceeded without a full catalogue.
