Drake sample secures royalties for soca singer Denise Belfon after 28-year wait

Trinidadian soca artist Denise Belfon, 57, recorded 'Work' in a single take in 1998. Producer Pupa Nas-T withheld her royalties for 28 years. He agreed to pay only after Drake sampled 'Work' and featured her vocals on 'BBW,' from the May 15, 2026 triple album 'Iceman,' 'Habibti' and 'Maid of Honour,' Billboard reported. Belfon said: 'I laid the bricks for the building to go up, yet they don't remember who put it down.'
