Spotify secures UMG and Merlin licences for AI remix tool with opt-in rights holder compensation

Spotify has licensed Universal Music Group and Merlin, the independent label collective, for an AI remix tool on an opt-in basis. Fans of participating artists can remix their songs in a forthcoming preview. Spotify said it will compensate and credit artists, songwriters and other rights holders. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström acknowledged artists remain skeptical of AI music. No full-launch timeline was given.
