Publishers' amended Iowa complaint targets ban on Orwell, Huxley and Angelou titles
Seven publishers and the Authors Guild filed an amended complaint in August 2026 challenging Iowa's SF 496, a law restricting books in public school libraries. The filing targets the banning of nine titles including Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm, Huxley's Brave New World and Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The case, Penguin Random House v. Robbins, has been litigated since 2023.
