Fra Angelico's earliest altarpiece returns to his Fiesole convent after two-year restoration

Fra Angelico's Fiesole Altarpiece, painted c. 1420–23 for the church of San Domenico in Fiesole, has been reinstalled there after a two-year restoration funded by Friends of Florence. Conservator Daniele Rossi removed varnishes and overpaint, distinguishing Fra Angelico's brushwork from Lorenzo di Credi's 1501 alterations. The work, Fra Angelico's first monumental commission, is now closer to its intended setting than in five centuries.
