DiCaprio and Bezos commit $200 million to save 100 critically endangered species

Leonardo DiCaprio's Re:wild and Jeff Bezos's Bezos Earth Fund launched the Phoenix Species Project on August 4, 2026 — a $200 million gift, the largest single philanthropic commitment dedicated exclusively to recovering critically endangered species. The project targets 100 species across 30 countries, including the Malayan pangolin and the golden-crowned sifaka lemur, through captive breeding, disease management, and habitat restoration.
