Merlin signs Spotify deal letting subscribers remix indie-label songs

Merlin, the digital rights body for independent labels worldwide, signed a licensing agreement with Spotify on 4 August, letting paying subscribers create AI-generated remixes of its members' catalogues. Each label opts in individually. Spotify operates the tool under its "three C's" framework: consent, credit and compensation. UMG signed on first in May; Merlin's deal adds thousands of indie labels.
