Sutton Hoo ship reconstruction targets May 2027 launch in Suffolk
A 90ft reconstruction of the Sutton Hoo Anglo-Saxon burial ship is taking shape at the Longshed on the River Deben in Suffolk. Around 170 volunteers are building it with traditional materials and techniques. The Sutton Hoo Ship's Company, chaired by archaeologist Martin Carver, aims to launch in May 2027, powered by 40 rowers. The project tests Anglo-Saxon shipbuilding theories.
