
Microsoft's AI Spending: Costs Outpacing Revenue
Microsoft spent roughly $145 billion in fiscal 2026 on capital expenditures — up to two-thirds of it on short-lived hardware like GPUs and CPUs. Its own guidance shows costs (COGS) growing 21–22% against revenue growth of 14–16%. Costs are rising nearly twice as fast as the top line. That gap is the number to watch.
