Eala becomes first Filipino WTA singles champion with DC Open upset of Pegula

Alexandra Eala, 21, beat world No 3 Jessica Pegula 4-6 6-4 6-0 in the rain-hit Mubadala DC Open final in Washington, becoming the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA Tour-level singles title. Eala, ranked No 28, was set to rise to a career-high No 20. She has now won five straight against top-10 opponents.
