Novelist Ursula Hegi dies at 80

Ursula Hegi, the German-born American novelist whose fiction explored memory and belonging across two cultures, died on 27 July 2026 at age 80, according to Forrester Funeral Home in Ronkonkoma, New York. Born in Düsseldorf in 1946, she immigrated to the United States in 1965 and became a naturalised US citizen in 1970. Funeral services are private.
