King Charles Opens His Scotland Summer as Chieftain of the Mey Highland Games

King Charles attended the Mey Highland Games in Caithness, Scotland, as Chieftain — a role he inherited from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, in 2002. The games were founded in 1970 for her 70th birthday. Roughly 2,000 spectators attend each year. Charles typically spends early August at the nearby Castle of Mey before moving to Balmoral Castle later in the month.
