Thousands attend Dublin wake for Glen Hansard, who died at 56

Thousands of mourners filed past Glen Hansard's wicker coffin at the Baroque Chapel, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, on 3 August 2026. RTÉ estimated the crowd in the thousands. Hansard, who won an Academy Award for "Falling Slowly" from the 2007 film Once, died on 29 July at age 56 in a motorcycle crash. His funeral follows on 4 August at St. Patrick's Cathedral, broadcast live on RTÉ News and RIP.ie.
