Christopher Nolan: spotting the wires doesn't mean the trick failed

Christopher Nolan told Beijing-based podcast host Zhong Shu on 30 July 2026 that there is "a real problem" with amateur film criticism. Nolan argued that identifying a storytelling mechanism does not invalidate it — amateur critics wrongly conclude that understanding why a story affects them means the story did not work.
