Mountaineer Nirmal Purja killed in Broad Peak avalanche that claimed ten lives

Nirmal "Nims" Purja, 43, the British-Nepali climber who scaled all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in 189 days — chronicled in the 2021 Netflix documentary "14 Peaks" — was killed in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan's Karakoram range. The disaster claimed at least ten lives. Purja served in the Special Boat Service before his mountaineering career.
