Duke of Kent presents RNLI gallantry award to lifeguard who rescued woman from rip current

The Duke of Kent, 90, presented the RNLI's Thanks of the Institution Award for Gallantry to Lead Lifeguard Supervisor Matty McLeod at Kensington Palace on 1 August 2026. McLeod saved Londoner Joanna Hicks from a rip current at Newgale Beach, dragging her to shore and starting CPR. Hicks stood beside the Duke to hand McLeod his award.
