Sony calls PlayStation disc production end 'final,' targeting early 2028

Sony will stop producing and selling physical PlayStation game discs in early 2028. CFO Lin Tao, speaking on a 31 July earnings call, said the decision is final and that Sony had "cautiously considered" it. He cited "the progressing digitalization of content" as the biggest factor. Tao acknowledged strong community opposition but said Sony will move forward.
