49,000 Migrants Enter Spain's Ceuta Enclave in 24 Hours

More than 49,000 migrants swam or walked into Ceuta — a Spanish territory of 85,000 on North Africa's coast — in 24 hours before 31 July 2026. At least 18 died. The surge far exceeds Ceuta's 2021 crisis of 10,000 crossings. Spain sent military forces, closed the Melilla border, and Prime Minister Sánchez visited Tarajal as opposition demanded action.
