Polish Writers' Union Seeks Statutory 10% Minimum Royalty on Cover Price
Poland's Polish Literary Union (Unia Literacka) — whose members include Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk — is campaigning for a statutory minimum royalty of at least 10% of a book's cover price. The union says Polish authors currently earn PLN 2.87 (about US$0.76) per book sold. Publisher Mariusz Szczygieł warns the floor could sink smaller houses. The Ministry of Culture has not set a timeline.
