Oates Defends Nolan's Odyssey From Wilson's Critique She Herself Echoed

Novelist Joyce Carol Oates called classicist Emily Wilson "classless" and "haughty" on X after Wilson's London Review of Books essay called Nolan's Odyssey script "abysmal." Oates had previously compared Nolan's film unfavourably to a 1997 Hallmark adaptation and dismissed Wilson's translation as "not for me" (The Guardian, 30 July 2026; X, 29 July 2026).
