Amazon Dropped $40M Altman Film After $50B OpenAI Deal; Neon Acquired It After Netflix, A24 and Focus Passed

Amazon MGM Studios dropped the nearly completed $40 million Guadagnino film "Artificial" months after signing a $50 billion partnership with OpenAI, Variety reported. Netflix, A24 and Focus Features all passed before Neon acquired it on June 30, 2026. Amazon said the film would "be better served if it were released by a different studio." Neon plans an Oscar campaign this year ahead of an early 2027 release.
