Governor Abbott pushes ban on AI data centres in rural Texas neighbourhoods

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is pushing for a ban on AI data centres in rural neighbourhoods and stricter regulations on their utility and water usage, the Texas Tribune reported. The facilities' rapid expansion, driven by AI computing demand, has put them in conflict with farming communities over shared groundwater and grid capacity. A May Gallup poll found seven in ten Americans oppose local AI data-centre construction.
