CBS's 60 Minutes overhauled: Pelley fired, Vega and Alfonsi ousted, Bilton installed by Bari Weiss

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss installed Nick Bilton as 60 Minutes executive producer in May 2025. The restructuring ousted predecessor Tanya Simon and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi. Scott Pelley was fired after criticising Bilton and Weiss in a staff meeting, per The Hollywood Reporter (28 July 2026). Bilton has since hired Ross Douthat, Sebastian Junger and Gianna Toboni, pursuing what he calls "gonzo journalism."
