Gordie Howe International Bridge opens, adding second Detroit–Windsor crossing
The C$6.4 billion Gordie Howe International Bridge opened to traffic on July 27, 2026, creating a second fixed link between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. It carries six lanes and the largest land ports of entry between Canada and the United States, relieving pressure on the 1929 Ambassador Bridge on one of North America's busiest trade corridors, according to the bridge project's website and Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada.
