New York finalizes SAFE for Kids Act with strict age-verification rules
New York's final SAFE for Kids Act rules require social platforms to verify users' ages before granting minors access to algorithmic feeds and overnight notifications. Verification must catch circumvention attempts 98% of the time, include at least one non-government-ID method, and immediately delete verification data after use. The law takes effect January 25, 2027, with penalties up to $5,000 per violation.
