Game of Thrones stage play begins previews at the RSC

George R. R. Martin's "Game of Thrones: The Mad King" began preview performances at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon on 28 July 2026 — the first time the Westeros universe has been staged for live theatre. Adapted by Duncan Macmillan and directed by Dominic Cooke, the RSC production runs to 5 September, opening on 8 August. The New York Times reported some cancelled performances on 27 July.
