Rick Moranis returns to live-action film after nearly 30 years, reprising Lord Dark Helmet in Spaceballs 2

Rick Moranis has returned to live-action filmmaking after nearly 30 years, reprising Lord Dark Helmet in Spaceballs: The New One, Variety reported on 28 July 2026. His last live-action feature was 1997's Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. At Comic-Con, Moranis called the experience a "time warp" that felt "very strange" at first but "started to feel really good." Amazon MGM Studios releases the film theatrically on 23 April 2027.
