Cape Verde's Women Reach WAFCON Debut Three Years After First FIFA Ranking

Cape Verde's women's team debuted at WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, three years after first entering the FIFA world ranking. They qualified by beating Mali 4–2 in Bamako — a match delayed by a floodlight failure — to win 4–3 on aggregate. Sandra Martins, who earned her first cap in the first leg, missed the second through illness but called the squad a "true sisterhood." Cape Verde face Ghana on 29 July.
