Milan Knížák, Czech artist branded 'enemy of the state' who later ran the National Gallery in Prague, dies at 86

Milan Knížák, a Czech visual artist, musician and educator once labelled an "enemy of the state" under Communist rule, has died at 86. The Czech News Agency reported his death on 26 July 2026. He later served as director of the National Gallery in Prague, the country's largest art institution. The Czech government will grant him a funeral with state honours.
