Trump orders warning signs outside US history museum
President Trump's 24 July 2026 executive order, "Restoring Trust in the Smithsonian Institution," directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to install signage along National Park Service walkways outside the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, warning visitors of politically biased exhibits. Federal appropriations fund roughly 62% of the Smithsonian's budget. NMAH director Anthea Hartig told a House subcommittee: "Examining the harder chapters of our history is not the same as hostility toward America."
