
Novelist Maha Harada's Directorial Debut 'In My Father's Room' Lands in San Sebastian Competition
Best-selling Japanese novelist Maha Harada — over 10 million books sold since 2006 — makes her feature directing debut with "In My Father's Room," a San Sebastian Film Festival competition selection, per Variety. Adapted from her short story "An Unnecessary Man," it stars Aoi Yu and Ogata Issey. Bitters End, the Tokyo company behind the Oscar-winning "Drive My Car," handles international sales; Japanese release is set for January 2027.
