Democrats Projected to Fall Short of Senate Majority in 2026, NPR Finds

Senate Democrats need four seats for a majority in 2026 because the Republican vice president breaks tie votes. An NPR analysis published July 27 finds Republicans expect Democrats to net one to three seats — short of control. Republicans lead 53-45, with two independents caucusing with Democrats.
