Christopher Nolan told Jimmy Fallon on 25 July he would be "terrified" to direct a romantic comedy. Comedy is "one of the hardest things in the world to make people laugh that way," he said, because "there's no hiding behind" an audience that does not respond — unlike genres where a film-maker can say "they don't get it."
