Sony imposed strictest-ever staff social media guidelines around disc production decision, says former developer

Sony issued the strictest social media guidelines its first-party staff had ever seen around its 1 July 2026 announcement ending physical disc production by January 2028, according to former Sony Santa Monica writer Alanah Pearce. Pearce said employees told her the rules were so restrictive that Sony clearly anticipated the public backlash that followed.
