British stars exit Glasgow 2026: Johnson-Thompson, Asher-Smith, Hudson-Smith and Hodgkinson all missing

Glasgow 2026 opens without its biggest British names. Katarina Johnson-Thompson (calf) and Eilish McColgan (toe from the London Marathon) withdrew through injury; Dina Asher-Smith, Matt Hudson-Smith and Amber Anning also pulled out. Keely Hodgkinson skipped the Games to prioritise the European Championships. Chief executive Phil Batty redirected focus to younger athletes stepping into the void.
