U.S. tightens foreign journalist visa rules, singles out Chinese reporters

DHS ended "duration of status," a system since the 1970s letting foreign journalists stay while eligible. Visas now cap at 240 days; Chinese journalists at 90. Secretary Mullin cited national security and fraud. RSF and CPJ condemned it; China called it discriminatory and threatened retaliation. The rule takes effect 60 days after Federal Register publication.
