A pigeon approached Oakland firefighters after a vehicle fire, apparently suffering from smoke inhalation — lung damage caused by inhaling toxic fumes. A firefighter applied an oxygen mask, clearing the bird's airways. It flew off unaided. Video of the rescue drew over one million Instagram likes within roughly 24 hours.
