53 Captive-Bred Giant Burrowing Frogs Released into the Wild in Victoria
Fifty-three southern giant burrowing frogs, bred in captivity from tadpoles rescued after the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfires, have been released in a remote area of eastern Victoria. Each was tagged before release. The species is critically endangered, meaning at very high risk of extinction, and only five breeding sites are known in the state.
