Painted Egyptian dog in Luxor tomb named Duaty, first known dog name with an Anubis epithet
Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore archaeologist Chelsea Kaufman has read the name of a painted dog in a Luxor tomb as Duaty, meaning "He-of-the-Underworld." Her reading, published in The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, makes it the first known Egyptian dog name with an epithet of Anubis, the god of the dead. About 100 dog names are known from Egypt.
