Treasury estimates up to $5 billion on overseas carbon credits for 2030 climate target
Treasury estimates New Zealand could pay up to $5 billion for overseas carbon credits to meet its 2030 climate target, plus $1.6 billion for 2035, Climate Action Tracker said. Carbon credits are bought from other countries and count towards the target. The tracker said the overseas cuts needed would exceed New Zealand's total 2024 annual emissions.
