Taranaki's new emergency department logged more red and amber alerts than the old one

Taranaki Base Hospital's new Emergency Department recorded 107 red alerts and 170 amber alerts between 1 July and 28 October 2026, RNZ reported. In the same period in 2025, the old department recorded 94 red and 145 amber. Alerts are triggered by how full the department is. The new department has 32 treatment spaces, up from 26.
