NZ First pledges bill to force Ngāpuhi to sign Treaty settlement if re-elected
New Zealand First deputy leader Shane Jones has committed to introducing a bill from an individual MP forcing Ngāpuhi to sign a Treaty of Waitangi settlement. Jones said he would "deal to it in the first hundred days after the election" if re-elected. The current Ngāpuhi rūnanga, the iwi's governing councils, say they are not currently seeking a settlement mandate.
