Federal judge denies Justice Department bid to set aside 20,000 California mail ballots

A federal judge on Wednesday, Oct. 28, denied the Justice Department's emergency request to set aside more than 20,000 California mail-in ballots tied to people it called "likely" noncitizens. U.S. District Judge David O. Carter issued a 26-page ruling. The department is expected to appeal. The general election is Nov. 3.
