Health Secretary Drops Plan to Abolish Healthwatch England, Extends Its Role
Health Secretary Yvette Cooper has dropped plans to abolish Healthwatch England, the NHS's independent patient champion, after criticism from MPs across Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat benches. The body will be kept and given a bigger role in flagging recurring patient concerns. Lords minister Gillian Merron is due to confirm the change when peers debate the health bill on Wednesday.
