Radiocarbon dating, which measures carbon decay in bone, places a skeleton inside a fourth-century Roman sarcophagus at Westminster Abbey in London between 987 and 1052 CE. The Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre ran the tests. Warwick Rodwell, the abbey's consultant archaeologist, reports the result in the Journal of the British Archaeological Association. It predates the Norman Conquest of 1066.
