England lose Rugby League World Cup opener 30-12 to Tonga

England lost their opening Rugby League World Cup match 30-12 to Tonga. Head coach Brian McDermott said his players were exhausted for about three days after a journey of almost 48 hours from northern England to their Perth base, though he refused to use travel as an excuse. Only the top two of the merged six-team league reach the semi-finals.
