Coogee and Maroubra beaches in Sydney closed after whale carcass washes up

Randwick City Council has closed Coogee and Maroubra beaches in Sydney until further notice after a decomposing whale washed up at Lurline Bay between them. The council said whale carcasses are known to attract sharks. It has received no reports of increased shark activity so far. The whale is believed to be a juvenile humpback.
