All Hopper's pre-art-school oils were copies, biography finds

Louis Shadwick's new biography traces all Edward Hopper's oil paintings made before art school to works by other artists, according to an extract published by The Art Newspaper. Old Ice Pond at Nyack follows Bruce Crane's A Winter Sunset; Rowboat in Rocky Cove follows Lake View, a watercolour by an unknown painter.
